Celebrate the beauty of Africa
We, as Africans have a lot to be proud and thankful for.

TODAY, 25 May marks International Africa Day.
We, as Africans have a lot to be proud and thankful for, most which we too often forget.

Africa’s beauty:
If we’re able to set aside the politics and frustration it causes, we open our eyes to the most beautiful land imaginable – our home, Africa.
SA is winning all the international travel prizes and has travellers raving about its beauty so much so that it now has the highest repeat tourism of any long-haul destination in the world. Many African countries made it into 2015’s ’20 Most Beautiful Countries in the World’, with South Africa rated number one.

Heart of the world:
Africa is seen as the heart of the world. Developing the world’s oldest human civilization, Africa gave humanity the use of fire a million and half to two million years ago. It is the home of the first tools, astronomy, jewellery, fishing, mathematics, crops, art, use of pigments, cutting and other pointed instruments and animal domestication. In short, Africa gave the world human civilisation.

Africa’s diversity and tourism:
South Africa being voted as one of the best countries to visit is partly because of the Rand, but the annual Travel Awards asks readers to rate their favourite countries based on criteria including food, accommodation, scenery and value for money. Africa is a continent with a very high linguistic diversity, there are an estimated 1500-2000 African languages!

However, the foreigners who don’t travel, tend to forget Africa’s diversity of culture, religion, language, belief and race.

Our Big Seven:
South Africa is home to the iconic Big Seven. Many only know of the Big Five, consisting of the African lion, leopard, rhinoceros, Cape buffalo and African elephant. Including the southern right whale and the great white shark, South Africa boasts The Big Seven.
