Amanzimtoti SPCA educates Busy-Bee littlies

"A child needs to be taught from a young age how to treat and care for a pet so they grow up to be conscious owners,"_ Michelle Hannan.

REPRESENTATIVES from the Amanzimtoti SPCA visited Busy-Bee Pre-Primary School on Thursday, 1 June. General pet care and the importance of the SPCA in the community were some of the topics covered.

Amanzimtoti SPCA’s Michelle Hannan spoke to the children about the SPCA and said, “I explained that the SPCA looks after animals that don’t have homes, so when they are looking for a new pet, they should come to the SPCA and avoid pet shops.”

Michelle also stipulated that dogs should receive their injections to prevent them from getting sick.

The little ones were also encouraged to bring in their old toys and clothes for the shelter’s thrift shop.

“It’s important to speak to children because as adults we often forget about the well-being of our animals. A child needs to be taught from a young age how to treat and care for a pet so they grow up to be conscious owners. We find that many of the children go home and remind their parents about their animals,” added Michelle.

The Amanzimtoti SPCA visits many of the local schools and pre-schools, hoping to dispel any myths about the SPCA and promote adopting animals.
