Toti rallies to save Five Mouseketeers

EDITOR – I thought you might enjoy this community story that just shows how good the community of Toti is.

The story starts with mommy cat giving birth to five kittens in a storeroom at the Toti Centre.

All was fine until the mommy cat was killed by a car. The cleaning staff took over the feeding of the kittens and although they were ferals and were not happy to be touched, they were fed and cared for. However their presence became a problem as they were defecating on the workers’ clothes. They approached me for help.

I sent out distress calls on Facebook. Operation Five Mouseketeers was launched.
The response was so great. Thanks to Seadoone Vet for the traps I used to round up the kittens. The SPCA didn’t have traps but did send an inspector who helped with food.

Jane Laver of Catwings helped with a food donation too. My son-in-law Darren Carter drove the kittens to Kloof to Niki’s Kitties Rescue.

There was the most amazing surprise – this young girl Nikita had set up a wonderful playpen kitted out with toys, scratch posts and soft blankets all ready for the new residents. This is a young woman who has put together her little rescue from her own money.
She raises funds for vet visits and finds homes for the kittens after taming them. She is a true kitty angel.

She updates me regularly on the progress of the ‘five mouseketeers’ who have all been for their shots and deworming, and are now on the way to being tamed. Thanks to all who helped me save these five little lives.
