The operation kicked off at 7pm and ran until 4am the following morning.
“The aim of the operation was to address the vagrants occupying the beaches from Amanzimtoti up to Winklespruit, as well as the alleged prostitutes along Beach Road and Kingsway,” said Amanzimtoti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.
“The operation resulted in 27 arrests which included three possession of Wonga, two possession of dangerous weapons, 13 trespassing and nine loitering for the purpose of prostitution.
“A total of 55 profiles were done and finger prints forwarded to our Criminal Record Centre for linkages to existing criminal cases.” Van der Spuy explained that up to date, four positive warrant of arrests (three Wonga and one trespassing) emanated from the profiles that were done and executed.
Authorities ensure that similar operations will be planned and conducted on a continues basis. The management of Amanzimtoti SAPS thanked all role players involved and encourage all security, business and neighbourhood watch groups to come together in to fight the crime in the Amanzimtoti community.
