Sewage works upgrade to be completed soon

THE first stage in the upgrading of the Kingsburgh sewage purification works is scheduled to be completed by the end of October this year.

Funded by the Port Natal-Ebhodwe Joint Services Board (JSB) at a cost of R11,4 million, the stage one extensions to the works have been designed to cater for the extra 27 000 people expected to occupy the first phase of the Lovu Development Project. Allocation of sites for this low-cost housing development is expected to commence within the next month.

Man scares children with smutty pictures

A MAN has been frightening children in the Toti area, by tailing them in his car and showing them pictures of naked women.

The matter was reported to the police last week, after two 12-year-old girls, who prefer not to be named, were followed by the man while on their way home from Toti Primary School. The girls saw the man drive slowly past as they walked along Dan Pienaar and York roads.

Airport dogs to assist in Toti

THE Police Dog Unit at Louis Botha Airport will respond to calls in the Amanzimtoti area, in addition to their airport duties.

According to Major Fourie of the dog unit, in addition to the bomb and drug ‘sniffer’ duties performed by the dogs, they have also been trained as attack dogs, able to respond to any petrol situation. The dog unit has been in existence since 1987, but this is the first opportunity they have had to prove themselves outside the perimeters of the airport.

Local crime buster is at work again

HOUSEBREAKERS in the area had better watch out.

Eagle-eyed local resident, George Snodey, is on the loose. Snodey, who owns Turnmore Traders in Warner Beach, is something of a celebrity after arresting a suspected burglar in St Winifreds on Friday. This brings to five the number of criminals arrested by Snodey this year. How does he manage to catch them? “I think I’m just observant. Most people wouldn’t suspect anything if they saw a person carrying a bag of clothing under his arm”. “I think I can see it in their eyes,” he said.
