Review of the North, Inner West, Reservoir Hills, Outer West, Central and South Schemes of the eThekwini Municipality

The Development Planning Department

The Development Planning Department has embarked on its sixth annual review of its Planning Schemes. The review is based on the need to remain proactive in order to facilitate development and growth in the City; while at the same time giving full effect the Citys’s vision of creating a Liveable City. The Scheme Review is a statutory requirement in terms of Chapter 5, Section 27 of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act No 16 of 2013 and Chapter 6, Section 19 of the eThekwini Municipality Planning and Land Use Management Bylaw 2016.

In 2012 the Council supported the updating, approval, consolidation and replacement of the various Town Planning Schemes into a single Land Use Management System. This was the first time that such work was done in the City. The Planning Schemes are continually undergoing their annual reviews and performance testing.

The Planning Scheme in all four regions has underfone changes since their last 2018-2019 review. Such changes are documented and will be available for viewing at each Regional office.

The Scheme document is available electronically and the addresses are as follows:

The Public have until 10 June 2020 to comment on these schemes.
