Superheroes spotted in Amanzimtoti
The aim was to bring families together and show that exercise can be fun
All budding superheroes in Toti got together to see who was tough enough to complete the Kapow Superhero Obstacle Race at Kuswag Skool on Friday, 13 March.

The heroes, young and not so young, had to complete an obstacle race over a distance of 2.5km. This was a variety of obstacles that included walking on balance beams over a lava river, dodging some serious electrical currents at the flash dash, jumping over shark-infested water, help Hulk tackle some bad guys, maneuver themselves through Spider Man’s web and braving Batman’s cave.

Each participant had to complete 18 obstacles successfully to collect stickers in order to earn their superhero certificate. The children had the opportunity to meet their favourite superheroes and get them to sign their certificates.

The event was a fundraising initiative for the school first hockey team. “The aim was to bring families together and show that with a bit of imagination and perseverance, even exercise can be fun and a way to bring friends and families together.

“Everyone had an amazing time, and the smiles and giggles coming from our participants were amazing. There are few things in life that beats the joy of seeing families and friends having fun together and the amazement on the face of a child when they meet their heroes,” said organiser, Hannelize van Heerden.

After the race the younger participants were entertained by Barney, Mickey Mouse, Peppa Pig and Mommy Shark. “So Amanzimtoti keep an eye out and do not fear, because after this weekend there is a superhero near you. We thank everybody, young and old, who supported this initiative. You’ve helped us make Amanzimtoti super again!”
