New marine pipeline may be needed
One or both of the existing AECI marine pipelines may have to be replaced.
Increased activity at the plant, including the new lysine plant and problems with the existing pipeline, indicate that a solution to the effluent problem must be found. AECI has appointed Steffen, Robertson and Kirsten (SRK) to oversee integrated environmental management procedures relating to this problem.
Police and vehicles attacked by crowds
Two policemen from the Prospecton satellite station were injured when they came under attack from by-standers last week following the arrest of a suspect.
The two policemen were part of a group of 35 members patrolling Prospecton during a crime prevention drive that started at 3am last Friday. At about 7am the police arrested a man for possession of dagga.
Quiet evening at home shattered
A quiet evening at home for a Warner Beach family was shattered when a car crashed through their front gate and came to stop against their garage.
A man, trying to make a get-away from police last Friday at about 11.20pm, lost control of his vehicle on the corner near Warner Beach Junior Primary School. The vehicle crashed through the gate on the property of Doug Slatter. “We were all inside when we heard a loud bang,” said Slatter.
Hitler makes his first arrest
Kingsway Protection Services Dog Unit’s newest team, last week made its first successful arrest in Winklespruit.
Rob Clifton-Parks, Norman Payne and ‘Hitler’ assisted in arresting four suspected car thieves in thick bush. A car stolen in Beach Road on Tuesday night was spotted by SAPS members who gave chase. The Dog Squad assisted in the chase. Four of the five suspects ran into the bushes at Winklespruit Beach parking area, followed by the two officers and ‘Hitler’.
Arsonists strike the area
Firefighters from Toti had their hands full when arsonists struck on Sunday night.
At 7pm they extinguished a fire in Fiddlewood Drive, Isipingo Hills. Firemen fought a blaze in a garage and storeroom for half an hour. Damage is estimated at R65 000. At 9pm a car was destroyed by fire on the Twini soccer fields. Arson is suspected in both cases.
