Bird saved from drug house

Max was a drug-addicted parrot who continually fell off his perch, with the trauma pulled all his feathers out, and would not eat.

Welcome home, Max.  Operation Bobbi Bear went beyond the call of duty when they rescued a little girl and her pet parrot from a life filled with trauma.

The organisation’s Eureka Olivier said, “Some time ago Michelle Jacobs rescued a young girl out of a drug house, but she would not leave her parrot Max behind. So Max came with. This often happens with rescues, where a child will not leave their pet behind. We are not big on adding to their trauma, so we rescue child and pet.  The child eventually went to the safety of her family in another province and was adamant Michelle must adopt Max. Max, at the time, was locked up in a room 24 hours a day where drugs were being used. Honestly Max was a drug-addicted parrot who continually fell off his perch, with the trauma pulled all his feathers out, and would not eat,” she said.

Michelle started the journey of loving him, patiently spending hours with him, and exactly like the children, they rescue.

“Max learned to trust Michelle and the healing started. Today Max is healthy, sings, whistles and imitates various sounds. He is now in the Bobbi Bear house entertaining the children, who also for the first time trust and have learnt not to be scared of animals and started loving them. Every morning was a fight over who feeds the turtles, Spud and Buddy, the two kittens, Snowy and Tigger, and now Max,” she added.
