[WATCH] – Litterboom installed at Amanzimtoti River
This initiative is in conjunction with the recently launched project called Inkwazi Isu (Fish Eagle Project) that aims to focus on minimising plastic pollution within the greater Amanzimtoti area.
The inclement weather did not dampen the spirits of Clean Surf Project (CSP) who joined forces with Durban Green Corridor to install a litterboom at Amanzimtoti River on Monday, 9 November. Litterbooms, which are floating debris traps, are positioned in waterways to trap highly buoyancy and visible pollutants such as plastic bottles, polystyrene, cans and other non-sinkable items.
“Lots and lots of rain certainly did not stop the team from Durban Green Corridor, assisted by CSP, Simphiwe Shezi, Michael Zondi as well as eThekwini beach management from completing the installation. The trap will be monitored and cleaned by CSP in the attempt to stop plastic waste from entering the lagoon, ocean and being scattered along our treasured Sapphire Coastline,” said the organisation’s Romy Wenzel.
