[WATCH] – Amanzimtoti waitress blessed with anonymous generous tip

Her bubbly and warm personality was reason enough for the astounding tip, but the customer wrote on the receipt ‘Wonderful service. Happy New Year’ accompanied by a smiley face.

Sidumisile Hlengwa, 24, is still reeling from shock after receiving a generous tip, to say the least, from an anonymous patron. The Galleria Panarottis waitress was working a night shift on Wednesday, 30 December, when she was given a tip of R1 340. She was delighted and overwhelmed.

Her bubbly and warm personality was reason enough for the astounding tip, but the customer wrote on the receipt ‘Wonderful service. Happy New Year’ accompanied by a smiley face. And this certainly left the biggest smile on Sidu’s face. Rather than spending her large tip, she invested the money in a savings account for her five-year-old son, Lwanda, who will start Grade R this year.

Upon receiving the tip she immediately called her sister, Alungile, who then took to popular Facebook group I’m Staying to share the story.

The post read, “I’m simply staying because of my younger sister who I’m proud of. Finished her teaching degree last year and is hustling because she hasn’t gotten a permanent position yet.  So she’s working at a restaurant as a waitress and last night she posted this on her WhatsApp. Thank you South Africans for your generosity, those waiters/ waitresses come from different backgrounds and they really need those jobs and appreciate every little tip #ImStaying.”

The post gained many reactions on social media and South Africans praised both the waitress and the customer.

“I am so grateful to have received this tip. It is truly heart-warming. Thank you also to Simone Steenkamp and Gugu Mtetwa for grooming my people skills,” she said.

The KwaMakhutha resident also encourages people to save at least 10 per cent of their salaries and described this as the perfect start to the new year.
