Residents urged to apply for special votes

Councillor André Beetge considers it pertinent to explain what a special vote is and how it applies to the government elections scheduled for Monday, November 1.

The deadline for ‘special vote’ applications comes to a close on Monday, October 4 October.  Councillor André Beetge considers it pertinent to explain what a special vote is and how it applies to the government elections scheduled for Monday, November 1.

“Essentially registered voters who are not going to be present within their registered voting district on election day, or who are hampered by disability or physical infirmary, can apply. These residents can either cast their vote at the voting station on the two days preceding the actual election date on Saturday, October 30 or Sunday, October 31 or receive a home visit from the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) on either of these days so they can cast their vote in the privacy of their own homes.”

A special vote does not facilitate postal votes, voting in another district, voting from anywhere else or voting outside the two days preceding the election day.

“We encourage all senior citizens, those in high-risk categories in relation to Covid-19, those hampered by disability whether physical or mental as well as their caregivers, to apply for home visits by the IEC. Those who are at high risk and who would prefer avoiding long queues, or those travelling on election day, or who for whatever reason are unable to cast their vote on 1 November, to apply so that they can vote at their registered voting station on either of the two days before election day.”

How can applications be done:
1. Online by logging into the Elections.org platform https://www.elections.org.za/pw/OnlineForms/Special-Vote-Online-Application
2. Visiting the IEC office located within the parameter of the Sizakala Centre, Gracedale Road, Winklespruit.
3. Contacting Cllr Andre Beetge on 082 718 8137 who has printed forms in his possession.
There will be no extensions on the date for special votes.
