The party was held at the Amanzimtoti Country Club on Tuesday, September 28. Ted, who is the coordinator of the Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy, is still going strong and very active in his role. He said what has kept him going is the love for nature and the attachment he has to the conservancy. Speaker after speaker appreciated the work he is still doing of nature conservation and his willingness to share the vast knowledge of nature he has. Kim McCarthy of the Sapphire Coast Tourism said it was a pleasure to know Ted.

“I will always be grateful of the talks we always have about a number of topics, from nature to science and philosophy,” said Kim.

Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said Ted’s legacy will always be attached to the golf club as well as the conservancy.

“We have shared a nice bond over the years. Thank you for the knowledge that you have been willing to impart. Happy birthday,” he said, wishing him another 90 years.

A retired engineer, Ted was a founding member of the conservancy in 1997. Since then he has introduced hundreds of of indigenous trees to the area and has spent many years trying to find a lasting solution to the sewage pollution at the Ezimbokodweni river, which has greatly impacted on the surrounding nature.
