Since being born in March, he has been in and out of hospital. Less than a week after being born, he was admitted to hospital after being diagnosed with neonatal sepsis and jaundice. After three unsuccessful lumbar punctures, doctors managed to test the spinal canal fluid and results came back positive for meningitis. Since then, he has already had various surgeries.

His mother, Samantha, said she was grateful for all the support from the community and the contributions to the fundraising efforts.

“Right now he is back in hospital and has been diagnosed with klebsiella pneumonia. Two weeks ago, he underwent two surgeries and was only home for a week before having to return to the hospital again,” said Samantha.

The brave infant is currently admitted at Netcare Kingsway Hospital.

The 5km hike is to help raise funds for ureteral reimplantation surgery.

The joining fee is R100 per adult, and R50 for children aged between three to 12. Entry is free for children aged two and under.
