[LETTER] A lack of maintenance leaves residents in the dark
Warner Beach residents are at their wits end by the lack of service from eThekwini municipality.

EDITOR – Since moving to Ellcock Road in April 2021, none of the streetlights have been working.
It obviously poses a safety and security risk for residents and visitors, as Ellcock Road provides parking space and access to the beach. The issue has been brought under the attention of the municipality and various other government entities for the area, ranging from emails, WhatsApp messages and telephone calls.
Other residents stated that they have been trying to get these lights working for two years. I have also seen the response from André Beetge in our local newspaper, and completely understand the difficulties faced.
As a community member, who wants to assist my local municipality and so forth, I have a friend who is a registered electrician, and also a well-known resident of Warner Beach.
We have offered to, at our own cost, repair these streetlights and were told no. Why?

Why are we not allowed to assist, as is so often asked of the community to do, in making our area a safer place?
