The new sinkhole formed while the one that is on the N2 is still waiting to be repaired.

MOTORISTS have been asked to exercise caution when driving along Andrew Zondo Road in Athlone Park as a sinkhole has recently formed on the road.

The sinkhole appeared on the Amanzimtoti-bound lane near the Amanzimtoti Country Club after the recent rains, putting more strain on the already compromised Amanzimtoti roads.

In April, during the floods, sinkholes appeared on the N2, in Umgababa and in Amanzimtoti near the Adams Road exit. While the damage in Umgababa was fixed, the contractor was stopped by Sanral after starting the Adams Road repairs. Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said the contractor’s tender was withdrawn by Sanral after the awarding failed to pass an auditing scrutiny. Sanral then promised repair works will start in July, which did not happen.
