Amanzimtoti couple celebrate 66 years of marriage
Louis Boshoff attributes his long-lasting marriage to the importance of keeping promises and maintaining harmony.
AMANZIMTOTI couple, Louis (87) and Marie (86) Boshoff celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on March 28.
Their enduring love story began decades ago when Louis, originally from the Western Cape, encountered Marie, a ‘desert rose’ from Windhoek, Namibia, while working away at the airport.

“One day, while travelling on the bus with colleagues, I saw her walking along the road and said ‘There goes my wife’. A few weeks later, we went on a date, and the rest was history,” he said.
The couple met while Louis was around 21 years old and married a few months later.

The pair share four children, one of whom has passed away, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
During his time in the airways, he was promoted several times, which meant he had to relocate often. “I was eventually relocated to Durban, where we moved to Amanzimtoti in 1977,” he said.
Reflecting on their relationship, Louis emphasised the importance of keeping promises and maintaining harmony in order to have a happy, long-lasting marriage.
