Toti netball team dominates in festival

Amanzimtoti Netball Club won seven of their eight matches played during the three-day festival.

THE Amanzimtoti Netball Club had a great start after winning seven of the eight matches in the Epworth School’s Pre-season Netball Festival in Pietermaritzburg from March 22 to 24.

The U18 squad came through with blistering energy, with players forming a coordinated force that steamrolled through opponents with ease and big score margins. In their only losing game against Pietermaritzburg Girls High School, the score was a narrow 27–28. Amanzimtoti player Alwande Gasa was named the Shooter of the Festival.

The Amanzimtoti Netball Club was started after Ruan Engelbrecht, former provincial player turned coach, realised that there were not a lot of sports options available for female athletes. In 2023, he wrote a successful proposal to the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre. The club formally launched this month.

Won 16–14 against Epworth High School 1st Team
Won 31–8 against Durban Girls College
Won 25–1 against Grace College
