CSP’s Romy Wenzel, said 125 Grade 7 learners assisted in the much-needed beach clean-up after a large amount of plastic waste, including nappies, sanitary pads, cable, fishing gear, tyres and buckets, washed up along the shore due to recent heavy rainfalls.
“A total of about 270kg of waste was collected; 25 bags, six tyres, one rope and two plastic containers,” she said.
Wenzel thanked all learners that participated, as well as Outdoor Environmental Education Africa and ATKV-Natalia.
“We are grateful to be given the opportunity to engage and educate youth members on plastic marine pollution, clean-ups and recycling initiatives,” she said.
