Rock thrown at car in Amanzimtoti

The motorist reported the incident to the police and was surprised by their lack of interest in trying to arrest the perpetrator.

A MOTORIST is urging other road users to be alert while driving after a rock was thrown at her car on the N2 in Amanzimtoti today (May 10).

Asking to be named only as BL Swanepoel, the woman said she was driving from Warner Beach to Galleria at around 09:30 when she said that a few hundred metres after the Adams Road off-ramp, she noticed a man standing on the grassy centre median.

“In a split second, I saw him hurl a rock towards me and hit the windscreen,” said Swanepoel.

The rock hit the windscreen, sending shards of glass flying towards Swanepoel. She is glad she was not injured as it could have been worse.

After the incident, she drove straight to the Amanzimtoti Police Station to report the matter but did not get the response she was hoping for.

“After telling them the rock thrower could still be in the same area where he hit my car, I was expecting the police to head out to the area and look for him and arrest him. They told me to open a case, but I thought it would be futile to open one as it won’t help get my windscreen fixed or the culprit arrested,” she said.

She said she would replace the windscreen but asked other motorists to be vigilant while using the N2.
