Repairs cut water off on the South Coast

A number of households on the South Coast still remain without water, with the water restoration time frame up to three days.

REPAIRS of a severe leak on a section of the South Coast Augmentation pipeline (SCA) have been completed, but water supply has not yet been restored to affected areas.

In a statement released today (October 24), eThekwini Municipality said the reason behind this is to allow the system to recover.

The repairs were undertaken on South Coast Road on the southern side of the uMlazi Canal and a 200mm scour valve on the 750mm pipeline at the Ezimbokodweni River.

“The trunkmain pipe supplies bulk water from uMngeni-uThukela Wiggins Water Treatment Works to the city’s Woodlands 3 and 4 reservoirs and then to the SCA pump station. The pump station, in turn, supplies Amanzimtoti and other areas in the south up to Scottburgh,” it said.

Residents are urged to be patient while the City’s teams work tirelessly to ensure sufficient water levels on the system. Water restoration will vary and is expected to improve within the next three days.

Affected areas include:
• Isipingo Beach
• Isipingo
• Lovu Township
• Prospecton Industrial
• Malabar Hills
• Reunion
• Ezimbokodweni
• Lotus Park
• Malukazi
• Orient Hills
