In pics: Mass ride fundraiser for Bobbi Bear receives much-needed assistance

Motorcycle clubs, NPOs, small businesses and even Metro Police banded together for the annual mass ride fundraiser for Operation Bobbi Bear.

A CONVOY of cars, motorbikes, bakkies and even an eThekwini Fire and Rescue fire engine made its way from the Amanzimtoti CBD through Doonside to the Operation Bobbi Bear house, where this year’s mass ride fundraiser took place recently.

The event, organised by Toti Community Assist (TCA), brought together biker clubs, security companies, businesses, individuals and Metro Police to support the selfless efforts by Operation Bobbi Bear to rescue, provide a home to, feed and support child sexual abuse victims.

Dalene Heath of TCA said, “I know the desperate need for Bobbi Bear, so as the founder of TCA, I took on the idea of arranging an annual mass ride. I would love to raise awareness everywhere for them as they do not get government funding.”

Among the donations received were clothing and shoes, toys and books, and around three weeks worth of non-perishable food items, including mielie meal, rice, flour, spaghetti and canned foods. The foodstuff is vital for the dozen children Bobbi Bear feeds every day.

“From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you to every single person that arrived here today, to every person that put money into bringing food and clothing items for the children. Not getting government funding is extremely tough for us. Our community sustains us and we have the most amazing community. So whenever we put out an appeal for help or food or clothing, this is what happens and I cannot thank people enough for caring so much about Bobbi Bear, caring about these children,” said Eureka Olivier, director of Operation Bobbi Bear.
