Abigail Lewis said her lifesaving journey began in 2020 when she joined the club as a nipper, equipping her with basic knowledge of beach safety.

“From there, I started building the foundation for everything I know today. When I turned 16,  finally became eligible to do my Lifesaving Award, which felt like a huge milestone. The training was intense, from CPR and first aid to rescue techniques and real-life emergency scenarios. Some days pushed me out of my comfort zone, but having my coach, Stefan Viljoen, guide and support me made all the difference,” said Abigail.

She said that it is amazing to look back at where she started as a young nipper and realise that all the early mornings, hard work and dedication led her to this achievement.

“I’m really proud of myself, and I’m excited to keep growing and contributing to the Winkle family,” said Abigail.

She encouraged prospective lifesavers to join the club and train, learn, and make lifelong friends.
