South Coast beaches water quality and bathing status update

If there are no further heavy downpours, these beaches could reopen before the weekend, subject to daily water quality test result.

FOLLOWING recent heavy rainfall and ongoing water quality testing, authorities have issued an updated advisory on bathing conditions and beach access along the South Coast.

Officials continue to closely monitor both water quality and visibility, with several beaches open, others showing improvement, and further updates expected as daily test results are received.

The following beaches are currently open for bathing:

  • Pipeline

  • Amanzimtoti Main Beach

Water quality has shown notable improvement at the beaches listed below. If there are no further heavy downpours, these beaches could reopen before the weekend, subject to daily water quality test results:

  • Reunion

  • Doonside

  • Winklespruit, which has shown exceptional improvement

In terms of visibility, Umgababa Beach has improved considerably, assisted by favourable wind conditions. This could result in the beach reopening as early as Thursday, pending continued improvement.

Officials will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide regular updates.
