Public asked to adhere to official bathing times at beaches

Bathing at beaches is allowed from 06:00 to 18:30 daily, while the lifeguards are on duty. The public is not allowed to swim at night.

Following the chaos that erupted at Amanzimtoti’s Pipeline Beach after the beach had closed for swimming on December 16, authorities have reminded the public of the official bathing times at all eThekwini Municipality’s beaches.

Bathing at beaches is allowed from 06:00 to 18:30 daily, while the lifeguards are on duty. The public is not allowed to swim at night, as the beaches have no lifeguards after 18:30.

Councillor André Beetge said the police, the metro police, and security companies assisted with dispersing the crowds from Pipeline Beach towards Beach Road, where many waited for transport until around 21:00.
