“The swift response and co-ordinated action led to a breakthrough in the fight against violent crime,” said Zungu.
Police traced the men to a property in Isipingo that was being used as a hideout. They were observed moving around the area in several vehicles before a carefully planned raid was executed. The multi-disciplinary team, comprising metro police and the SAPS, recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition, including a pistol with no serial number and a Glock pistol linked to a previous armed robbery. Stolen property, believed to be connected to ongoing truck-jacking investigations, was also seized.
Zungu confirmed that the suspects are facing charges relating to the unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition, and stolen property, while further investigations have linked them to several other violent crimes. He commended the dedication and teamwork of all units involved in the operation.
The men were remanded in custody while investigations continue.
