ISIPINGO police have issued a warning to business owners, residents, organisations and other stakeholders of a person who is allegedly falsely representing himself as a police member to solicit money.

Communications officer, Constable Donald Naidoo, said the individual is using names such as “Colonel Naidoo”, “Captain Naidoo” and “Marlon”, and is approaching businesses and members of the community requesting money on behalf of Isipingo police, purportedly relating to charity or community aid.

“Isipingo police wishes to make it clear that there is no such official request or initiative currently authorised by the station. Members of the public are urged not to hand over money, make payments or provide financial assistance to any person claiming to represent Isipingo SAPS unless the request has been formally verified with the station,” said Naidoo.

He explained that any legitimate requests for donations, sponsorships or requests for support from the police will be accompanied by an official written request authorised through the office of the station commander.

“Should anyone be approached by a person making such requests, please do not provide money and immediately report the matter to Isipingo SAPS so that the person’s identity and the legitimacy of the request can be verified. The community is further urged not to confront or take action against the individual, but to report the matter to the police,” concluded Naidoo.
