eThekwini Municipality’s emergency reporting lines down

The fault has disrupted critical communication services, including the toll-free number and emergency lines.

A NETWORK fault has temporarily caused eThekwini Municipality’s emergency lines to go out of service, and residents may be unable to reach emergency teams through their usual channels today (January 5).

In a statement, eThekwini said the fault disrupted critical communication services, including the toll-free number and emergency lines.

“The municipality understands the urgency and importance of these essential services, and the public is assured that technical teams are working around the clock to identify and resolve the fault. All available resources have been deployed to restore full functionality as quickly as possible,” the statement read.

In the interim, residents can use the following alternative contact numbers for assistance:

• Fire Services – 076 223 2224 or 063 603 5775
• Metro Police and Disaster Services – 031 367 0005
• Water and Sanitation – WhatsApp 073 1483 477. Alternatively, log faults through eThekwini’s mobile app.
• Electricity – Whatsapp 076 791 2449. Alternatively, log faults through the Electricity mobile app or webfault.durban.gov.za or use the free USSD by dialling *134*3532#.
