Toti Canoe Club chairman, Stan Whiting, said the course teaches basics of canoeing and kayaking, such as how to choose equipment for the activity, how to hold your paddle, what safety equipment needed, how to enter your boat, how to balance as well as tips on how to improve balance if you are not coping.

The course then moved onto paddle techniques and how to execute them correctly. Lastly, how to structure a training programme to suit the respective discipline chosen.

“We would like to thank Bridgitte for a well-run course. No question went unanswered and students of all levels were enlightened and their quest for knowledge satisfied,” said Whiting.

He thanked the O’Connor family for hosting the event at Illovo Africa Lodge and accommodating Bridgitte, and the club’s mothers for the catering and ensuring all were well-fed and hydrated. He also extended a special thank you to Mike Chiazzari for coordinating the event with Bridgitte and every one else, in order to make it happen.

“This will allow us as a club to really get ahead with our development programme now and we look forward to level 2 ICF coaching course in the not too distant future,” said Whiting.
