BREAKING NEWS: Local taxi owner killed in alleged hit in Winklespruit

The driver of the double-cab bakkie was shot at by unknown assailants and sustained fatal injuries.

A shooting occurred on the R603 East in Winklespruit next to the N2 North off-ramp, just after 09:00 on October 7. The crime scene is between Tacoma Road and the N2 North off-ramp.

The crime scene is still active, and motorists are urged to approach with caution.

The driver of the double-cab bakkie was shot at by unknown assailants, causing it to leave the roadway and crash into the perimeter fence of a nearby municipal depot. The driver, who was alone, sustained fatal injuries.

It is believed that the driver is a taxi owner. The bakkie, which was left riddled with bullet holes, is still at the scene and is being processed by the police. Family members have just arrived at the scene.
