The competition has been running annually across the globe for over 30 years and is open to learners from primary schools to design a poster that best represents the year’s theme. In Amanzimtoti, it is run by the Lion’s Club of Kingsburgh and for 2022/2023, the theme is ‘Lead with Compassion’.
Kwando Dladla from Warner Beach Preparatory School took second place, and Khanyi Buthelezi from Amanzimtoti Primary School was awarded for having a highly commended poster.
Esmé Nel, of the Lions Club of Kingsburgh, said the contest was well-supported and the judges got to witness the children’s amazing creativity.
“On behalf of the Lions Club of Kingsburgh, we would like to congratulate you on your achievements. Your hard work, perseverance, and dedication have paid off. May you continue to inspire as you strive to realise your goals in the future,” said Esmé.
James said he was very happy that his poster won. He said he thought long and hard about leaders in his life, and he was inspired to do a painting that represents his father because he is his hero and he has all the qualities of a good leader.
The next level of judging for the posters will be done at the district level, and the winning posters will be judged at the national level. The child with the winning poster in South Africa will be judged internationally by the United Nations with other winning posters from other countries.
