PHOTOS: A fun-filled market despite rainy weather

Despite experiencing all four seasons in one day, the market was well-attended by both stallholders and visitors.

STALLHOLDERS and visitors braved the rainy weather on January 29, to support the Mulligan Valentine’s Market at the Amanzimtoti Golf Club.

Although some of the fun outdoor market activities were cancelled, the rain did not affect numbers as 35 stallholders attended with a reasonable turnout of community members browsing through the stalls. There were a variety of food, handmade crafts, toys and other items for sale.

The event’s organiser, Chantelle Lotter, said, “In my opinion, considering the fact that we literally had four seasons in one day, we had a reasonable turnout. Some stalls did amazingly well and some didn’t. But this is par for the course when it comes to markets. I am extremely pleased that the stallholders are willing to come out in adverse weather conditions. I admire their commitment. Many of them are not permanently employed, and markets are their only source of income.”

She also thanked the stallholders for their contributions toward non-profit organisations Hearts of Toti and the Amanzimtoti SPCA.

Throughout the year, Chantelle will be hosting themed markets in order to support the golf club, the community and local non-profit organisations.

“The club is in need of funds to repair the damage to the course caused by the KZN floods. The market is also to assist those who are unemployed in our community and are battling to find work. It helps bring in much-needed income,” she said.

The next market is the Mulligan Autumn Market on March 5, at the Amanzimtoti Golf Club, from 10:00 to 16:00. The public, as well as stallholders, are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items for Hearts of Toti or pet food for the Amanzimtoti SPCA.
