Lewis Drive wash-away to be repaired
Councillor André Beetge says that projects that have been at a standstill will finally be completed.
WARD 97 councillor and eThekwini Municipality’s executive council member, André Beetge, has confirmed that, following the passing of the adjustment budget by eThekwini Municipality at the end of February, the projects that have been at a standstill will finally be completed.

Beetge said this after meeting with the contractor at the site of the Lewis Drive wash-away in Amanzimtoti.
At the site, a steel drum had been set up on the road as a warning to motorists so they do not drive into the crater that was created after heavy rains last year.
“This is just one of over 300 projects that are with the coastal stormwater department, and it’s a fact that the budget had to be approved and then go out to tender. This is not the only project to be done, but we asked that it be expedited because it is on a main school route, and we have been waiting for it for several months pending funding,” said Beetge.
The disaster fund is only now coming into the City’s coffers, and it is going to be used for projects that have been lagging behind since the April 2022 floods. Beetge said the allocation of funds does not mean that all repairs will be done overnight as there are various processes that have to be followed.
