Family seeks justice after son is murdered
It is alleged that the father of a girl he was talking to stopped his car and shot him.
AFTER laying Nkosingiphile ‘Cheese’ Hlengwa to rest on Saturday, July 1, his family is still in the dark about how the case of his death is proceeding.

Nkosingiphile (20) was shot and killed in Ezimangweni, just outside Amanzimtoti, on Sunday, June 25, in broad daylight. His mother, Nomana Hlengwa, said when she was called to the scene not long after her son had left the house, she found him lying next to the road with a gunshot wound to the head.
“Paramedics and police arrived, but he was pronounced dead. When he left home earlier, I thought he had gone to see his friends as usual,” said Nomana.
It was only later that day that she received a full report about the events that led up to her son’s death. A relative told her that Nkosingiphile had been talking with a young girl from the same area when the girl’s father’s car appeared on the same road. The father allegedly stopped the car, pulled out his gun and shot Nkosingiphile at point-blank range.
When the family went to the KwaMakhutha police station to formally open a case, Nomana said they were surprised to find that the man who is being fingered in the death of her son had already been there to tell the police that he had shot a man who had tried to hijack him. The family confirmed that no arrests have been made, which has caused even more pain as the person whom they suspect of killing Nkosingiphile is out free and was even seen at a wedding the weekend Nkosingiphile was buried.
“All we want is justice, and we will never stop talking about this until justice is served,” said Nomana.
Provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said a murder case was opened at the KwaMakhutha police station after a 20-year-old man was shot once in the head and died. She said the case is under investigation.
