Illovo Beach water-tower repairs underway

Residents have been asked to use the municipal system instead of social media to report water shortages.

WARD 97 councillor André Beetge said measures are being taken to resolve the water-shortage issues in Illovo Beach. He said a meeting was held with both municipal and private-sector stakeholders regarding the area’s water tower which is the source of the problem.

“While repairs to the severely compromised water-tower structure will continue into the first half of August, we have requested the department to explore other options as the tower capacity is presently under 50%, which results in more frequent outages, especially with load-shedding playing an integral role,” said Beetge.

The wear and tear of the tower has resulted in Illovo Beach experiencing a very low water pressure which fails to supply the whole area. He added that while the eThekwini Water and Sanitation Department is keeping a close eye on the tower levels, residents are requested to report outages in a timely manner using the municipal system, as opposed to relying on local social media groups.
