The children, who were accompanied by their teachers, were reminded of basic situational safety tips and body safety and how to be aware of gender-based violence and human trafficking.

Amanzimtoti SAPS’ Sergeant Nondumiso Mncwabe said the event is also for children to get to know them better. “We want the children to know that police are here to help – we are their friends and we can keep them safe,” she said.
With the generosity of uThingo’s partners, they were also able to gift each child with a new tracksuit, as well as sweets and colouring-in books. Mildred thanked the Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum, the Amanzimtoti SAPS Social Crime Prevention team, Usizo-lomndeni.org, Jarefs Paints & DIY Centre, Sparrow Trust and the friends of uThingo for each donation that was made for a successful empowerment programme.
