Jabulani cake sale helps raise funds for upliftment projects
A cake sale is one of many ways Jabulani - The Kingsburgh Welfare Organisation for the Aged raises funds to assist with various projects in and around the home.
JABULANI – The Kingsburgh Welfare Organisation for the Aged recently held a cake sale in its hall, in an effort to raise funds for its projects.
The smell of pancakes, coffee and sweet treats filled the air as a variety of homemade goods were laid out on a table for visitors to purchase and indulge in.

Jabulani’s Liz Naude said a lot of goods were made by residents, while Pick ‘n Pay donated four delicious cakes. “The cake sale went well. We made over R4 600 profit. Community member Reena Solomon assisted with advertising our event,” she said.

Jabulani holds various events in an effort to raise funds to assist with various upliftment projects. “We are looking at upgrading our sun lounges and the parking area. We are also looking at the garden behind the building, however, we need a landscaper to assist us on that project,” said Naude.
Community members were also able to browse through its three charity shops: a second-hand shop, bric-a-brac shop and craft shop.
“Selling items at our charity shops helps us generate some extra money, which allows us to keep the rent as low as possible for the 81 residents who mostly only receive Sassa grants,” said Naude.

She also appeals to the community for donations of magazines, bric-a-brac, crafts and fabric, second-hand clothing and linen. The shops are open on Thursdays from 07:00 to 10:00.
