The sport combines elements of gymnastics, dance and callisthenics. Apparatus such as hoops, balls, ribbons, ropes and clubs are used.

Many of the girls performed preset individual routines, while one did a voluntary routine that was choreographed for her. The girls did a few routines, and depending on their level, they used different apparatus in a bid to win medals and overall wins. Seven of the girls also performed in an open group.

Coach and club leader, Jess Odendaal, said the competition was tough, but the girls did really well, bringing home a total of 17 medals.
