Hard work pays off for Amanzimtoti rugby player

The passionate rugby player's hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed this season as he was awarded U20 Player of the Year.

AMANZIMTOTI Rugby Club’s (ARC) Keagan Myburgh won the U20 Player of the Year award at the club’s recent year-end prize-giving.

Myburgh, who plays tightened prop, said the 2023 season was marked by challenges, including the near absence of an U20 team. However, the team’s perseverance and hard work paid off as they won the Team of the Year award.

The club’s administrator, Sharon Zulch, said they were proud to have their U20s make a comeback in April after a long absence of 12 years. “There has not been a side due to a lack of interest among the youth, with most of them travelling to Durban clubs,” she said.

Myburgh’s journey with ARC is one of dedication and passion for the sport. He started playing rugby with the club at the age of six and has now earned the well-deserved U20 Player of the Year award.

He said, “I’ve won many trophies in the past, from Player of the Season to Player of the Tournament. However, the trophies don’t matter; I just enjoy playing the game.”

Rugby also serves as an escape from his everyday work. Myburgh is looking forward to the upcoming season as he transitions into the senior team.
