Toti Central CPF Sub Forum combats crime one camera at a time
The residents of Queens Terrace rallied together to raise funds for surveillance cameras, which can be monitored and accessed by the community and security companies.

AFTER facing electricity outages due to cable theft, Queens Terrace residents in Doonside came together to fund surveillance cameras for the street.
Resident Debbie de Nysschen said after various incidents in the area and hearing about the positive results yielded from camera systems in the neighbourhoods, she took the initiative to rally her neighbours together and secure the required funds for the project.

This four-camera system is now the second one installed and initiated by the Toti Central Community Police Sub Forum, in an attempt to help strengthen crime-fighting efforts. The first one was installed at the intersection of Entombeni Drive and Wytham Harvey Road in August.
The sub-forum’s chairperson, Dane de Klerk, said the more cameras they are able to install in the area, the fewer hours their volunteer patrollers need to spend on the street. “These cameras can be monitored by the community at any given time, as well as accessed by security companies whom we are partnered with,” he said.
De Klerk added that they have noticed an increase in incidents recently, especially during the day.

“As we near the festive season, we encourage everyone to be extra vigilant and aware of their surroundings. Join a security company if possible, as these guys are on the road 24/7. Alternatively, if you can give two hours a week of your time to your community, then join our patrol team and help keep our area safe,” he said.
The area they cover is from Isundu Drive to School Road, all the way down to Rock View Road and all the up to Wanda Cele Road, connecting on Seadoone Road.
