Thabsile Khuzwayo decided to work with the youth from KwaMakhutha and Adams Mission after seeing the effect illicit drugs were having on young people in her area. Her NPO organises camping trips and other outings for young people where they get taught about the bad effects of drugs and alcohol.

“I have been recognised and awarded at the provincial level for the work I do, but it feels extra special to be recognised in my community. This means a lot and it has given me strength to work even harder and reach more young people,” said Thabsile.

Thandeka Khathi Madlala who is the founder of Sakha Isizwe FM Community Awards said there are 14 categories that nominees can be voted in, ranging from Best School Principal, Best Entrepreneur, to Best Community Leader.

“The aim of these awards is to recognise those who strive to improve our community for the better. What is good about this is that we give the community to vote for the person they feel has the most impact,” said Thandeka.

The awards will be held today (November 24) at the Siphumelele Hall in KwaMakhutha.
