Social Development MEC calls for swift justice after teen found dead in Amanzimtoti
The victim was allegedly raped and stabbed at her residence, and members of her family attempted to transport her to hospital.
KZN SOCIAL Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza, who expressed shock and outrage, has called for swift justice following the murder of a teenager from Bhekulwandle, just outside Amanzimtoti, on February 26.
According to Amanzimtoti Police Station’s communications officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, at 10:30, a passerby alerted a local security company about a stationary white VW Polo on the corner of Kingsway and Oceanview roads in Athlone Park. Both left tyres were damaged.

“The vehicle was occupied by two men, and the body of a 17-year-old female was found on the floor of the backseat, fully wrapped in a blanket. The body was naked with several stab wounds,” she said.
Van der Spuy said the one man, who identified himself as the girl’s father, stated that they were rushing her to the hospital when they hit the pavement. “He further stated that earlier, when they arrived at his home in Bhekulwandle, they saw an unknown man running out of the house with a backpack. They found her upon entering the house,” she said.
Van der Spuy added that the initial scene of the crime was attended by police officers, where enquiries in the neighbourhood revealed that at around 10:00, they heard a scream for help and noticed an unknown man running out of her house.

According to a statement by the department, the incident, which is suspected to involve rape, has sent shockwaves throughout the community and prompted an urgent call for justice.
In response to this heartbreaking incident, Khoza extended her deepest heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. She promptly dispatched a team of social workers to provide much-needed trauma support to the family during this difficult time.
“We have been in contact with the community of Felekisi, and they indicated that the girl was allegedly raped by a known local boy who stabbed her. This is a horrible incident that happened to this family. We call on the police to work around the clock to ensure that the alleged perpetrator gets arrested. We strongly believe that the police will trace the perpetrator to ensure that he pays for his sins,” she said.
Van der Spuy said a case of murder was opened and handed over to the KwaMakhutha Police Station for further investigation. No arrests have been made.
