According to a video shared online by a resident, the explosion and fire occurred around 22:30. Ward 97 councillor, André Beetge, said the fire department was alerted and responded to douse the flames. The Electricity Department also responded and started working on restoring the power.

“The fire occurred in the main distributor and has rendered the entire area without supply,” he said.

While the cause of the fire has not been revealed, power was restored to most areas a few hours later.
