Pipeline challenges reduce Toti’s water supply

Consumers are requested to use water sparingly to enable the system to recover quicker and afford all to receive water sooner.

CHALLENGES affecting pump 2 at the South Coast Augmentation (SCA) pipeline in Umlazi continue to hamper water inflow to Amanzimtoti and other southern areas.

Councillor André Beetge said the water supply from SCA Umlazi to Prospecton, Isipingo, Garden Lots, and Toti Water Works (TWW) lines remains reduced.

“Following earlier challenges resulting from pump cutting out due to a supply restriction off Wiggins Water Works, two pumps were commissioned at 15:30 on January 9. This resulted in a total of five hours of supply capacity being lost and TWW is presently receiving two-thirds of capacity with the other third feeding the Prospecton/Isipingo, and Garden Lots lines,” said Beetge.

He asked those who have water to reduce consumption to enable the system to recover quicker, thus affording those who were deprived an opportunity to receive sooner.
