Just in: Pilgrim informal settlement near Isipingo on fire

Emergency services are at the scene working to put out the fire. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A FIRE broke out at Pilgrim informal settlement in Reunion near Isipingo today (February 19), gutting several structures in its wake.
At the time of publication, PT Alarms spokesperson Devhan Govindasamy said emergency services had responded and were working to put it out.
“The circumstances surrounding the fire are unknown and subject to investigation,” said Govindasamy.
No injuries had been confirmed.

In 2024, Mammoloko Kubayi, the minister of Human Settlements, and eThekwini Municipality mayor, Cyril Xaba, promised to eradicate the informal settlement and build 404 new houses for residents. The project is scheduled to commence this year.
