KwaMakhutha taxi involved in accident

According to ALS paramedics, 20 people had sustained various injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various hospitals.

A KWAMAKHUTHA-BOUND minibus taxi and a sedan were involved in an accident on the M4 southbound carriageway near Clairwood on February 17, leaving 20 people injured.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the accident happened just after 13:15.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find total carnage after a taxi and a light motor vehicle collided on the freeway before the taxi overturned multiple times, coming to rest on its side. They quickly assessed the scene and set up a triage system before calling for more ambulances as well as advanced life support paramedics to assist,” said Jamieson.

He said the various injuries ranged from moderate to serious. The injured were stabilised at the scene before being transported to various hospitals in Durban.
