N2 Ezimbokodweni River bridge to close for repairs

The southbound lane of the N2 near the Ezimbokodweni River bridge will temporarily close for two nights to allow for essential repairs to the bridge.

THE southbound lane of the N2 between Joyner Road and Moss Kolnik Drive will temporarily close for two nights to allow for essential jacking work at the Ezimbokodweni River bridge on April 5 and 6.

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) said during these closures, traffic will be diverted via the Joyner Road offramp onto a temporary detour route. Northbound traffic will not be affected.

The bridge partially collapsed in November last year after one of the decks sank, making the road surface uneven. Emergency repair work allowed the bridge to reopen to traffic after the collapsed deck was jacked and brought to level.

SANRAL KwaZulu-Natal’s project manager, Serisha Sukraj, advised motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra travel time, particularly when heading to key travel hubs such as airports.

“We urge all road users to exercise caution, adhere to traffic signs, and comply with speed limits while approaching and navigating the construction zone,” said Sukraj.

Closure days and times:

April 5: 20:00 – 05:00
April 6: 20:00 – 05:00.
