New Amanzimtoti housing project threatens gun club [Video]

eThekwini Municipality has greenlit a social housing development in Umdoni Road, sparking concern from the Poinsettia Pistol Club, which occupies part of the land.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has approved a social housing project at 98 Umdoni Road in Amanzimtoti, prompting shock from the Poinsettia Pistol Club which currently occupies part of the land.

The club, which has operated since 1961 and hosts national shooting events, says it was not informed of the development. Councillor André Beetge also expressed surprise, noting the lack of public participation. The club’s month-to-month lease allows the city to terminate it with a month’s notice, leaving the club without an alternative location. The five-year project will include 98 affordable housing units.
