Repairs tackle Amanzimtoti blockages
An outfall at the N2 underpass, near the river, was traced to a collapsed manhole near the Isundu Drive/Civic Road intersection, adjacent to the N2 palisade fence.
A SERIES of maintenance interventions have been carried out across Ward 97 to address persistent blockages and outfalls impacting local streams and drainage infrastructure, councillor André Beetge has confirmed.

He said the undergrowth along Bluegum Way was recently cleared, allowing municipal workers access to blockages that had been compromising water flow along Valley Road and into the Little Amanzimtoti River.
“Clearing this undergrowth was essential to restoring the stream’s natural flow and reducing the risk of further obstruction,” said Beetge.
Further efforts were concentrated along the Bernadotte Road line, closer to Amanzimtoti Primary School, where work targeted the root causes of recurring puddles and foul odours near the Lewis Drive onramp to the N2 highway.
A breakthrough was also achieved along Civic Road. An outfall at the N2 underpass, near the river, was traced to a collapsed manhole near the Isundu Drive/Civic Road intersection, adjacent to the N2 palisade fence.
“The damaged manhole was identified and replaced over the weekend, effectively resolving the issue,” he said.
He cautioned, however, that the wastewater and stormwater systems remain in constant use and are vulnerable to wear and tear, as well as blockages caused by foreign objects.
Beetge urged residents to report any signs of outfall or infrastructure failure through the appropriate municipal reporting platforms.
“Timely reporting is critical to ensuring swift municipal response and maintaining the integrity of our infrastructure,” he said.
