Handwashing drive in Adams Mission fosters healthy living

Community members were educated and reminded about the importance of washing hands as this helps to curb the spread of germs and prevent diseases.

THE Adams Mission Clinic celebrated Global Handwashing Day on October 15, a day observed to mobilise people around the world to improve their handwashing habits.

The clinic falls under the Department of Health in the eThekwini Municipality.

The community members who attended the event were educated and reminded about the importance of washing hands, as this helps to curb the spread of germs and prevent diseases. In a statement, eThekwini said this was done to promote healthier communities.

“[At the event], health officials emphasised washing hands with soap and water, or using hand sanitiser before touching food, before breastfeeding a baby, and after using the toilet,” it said.

Global Handwashing Day was first celebrated in 2008.
